When it is about the best possible picture quality, a wallpapered or painted room wall is not enough. This is due to the nature and physical properties of projection surfaces.

A projector screen is made of special material with a fine structure. It focuses the projected light and reflects it back. You get the best quality from well-known manufacturers such as celexon, Projecta and DELUXX.

Gain factor: The light guide

Before you buy a screen, pay attention to the gain factor (luminance factor). This is given as a reflection value. The gain factor of a projector screen determines how much and, above all, in what quality you see the projected image.

This value is between 1.0 and 1.5 gain for most projector screens. Both for business and home cinema use, screens with this value are best suited.

A bright image is indispensable for seminar rooms with daylight, for example. A screen with a high gain factor can support a bright projector (at least 3,000 ANSI lumens).

The combination of a screen with a high gain factor and a bright projector ensures that the projection image is recognisable. However, this comes at the cost of a larger viewing angle: Viewers who are further away from the centre of the projection screen will therefore only see a low-contrast image.

For a rear projection screen, on the other hand, high values of over 2 gain are common, as the fabric must be illuminated by a projector. This requires a stronger light output and thus a correspondingly high gain factor.

Screen format: 1:1, 4:3 or 16:9?

The screen format usually depends on the output format of the projector.

16:9 format

The popular 16:9 format is best suited for projectors with Full HD, HD ready and 4K (3840 x 2160) resolutions. These image resolutions correspond to the 16:9 aspect ratio. The projection surface of the screen is completely filled by the projected image.

16:10 format

Screens with a 16:10 aspect ratio are also available. The screen size here corresponds to the format-filling WXGA resolution and the WUXGA resolution.

1:1 and 4:3 format

Screen formats 1:1 and 4:3 are also still popular. The advantage here is that the projection image on the screen can be adjusted to the room height. In addition, a screen in 1:1 format is still interesting for overhead projectors.

Installation screens are designed for fixed installation on the wall or ceiling. They are suitable for both business and home cinema users. Screens for ceiling installation: discreet and easy

A projection screen embedded directly in the ceiling is the most elegant mounting solution: When rolled up, it is hardly noticeable and can be conveniently extended at the touch of a button when needed.

If a recessed ceiling screen is located in front of a window front in an office, for example, it can be rolled up after use. This means that daylight is not permanently obscured by the screen.
