These projector technologies are available: DLP, 3LCD & Co.

The projector technology not only determines what you see, but also how you see it: true-to-life colours or strong contrasts, a well-lit projection screen or detailed images.

  • DLP projectors offer higher contrast ratios and smooth movements, resulting in impressive images with deep blacks and clear details. This makes them ideal for films and gaming in the home cinema. Although they often have a slightly lower light output, they offer an intense visual experience for darker rooms.

  • LCD projectors are characterised by rich and vivid colours and good brightness values. Thanks to their high light output in ANSI lumens, LCD projectors are ideal for presentations and projections in brighter rooms and offices, as they deliver clear and highly visible images even in difficult lighting conditions.

  • LCoS and SXRD projectors utilise modern light generation using LEDs and lasers. These technologies offer sharper and more precise images and are more energy-efficient as they use energy-saving and long-lasting projector lamps. LCoS and SXRD projectors are suitable for applications where high image quality and reliability are required.

Business, home cinema or education: the right projector for your application

Projectors are available for various areas of application. The requirements for the functions and features of a projector are correspondingly high. Find out below which projectors are particularly suitable for the various areas of application.

Our tip: How to easily find the right projector

You can recognise which application area a projector is best suited for by the symbol for the respective application area and the suitability value in percent.

What does a good projector cost?

This depends on how and where you want to use a projector. For example, a home cinema projector must meet different requirements than a projector for school use. The technical features are decisive. The following applies: the better the technical features of a projector, the more expensive the device. These features primarily include image resolution, light intensity, light-generating technology (e.g. DLP, LED), projection technology and projector features. In terms of technical features, projectors can be roughly divided into four price categories:

Frequently asked questions about projectors

The only difference between a beamer and a projector is the name. In Germany and some other countries, the term "beamer" is often used, whereas in other parts of the world and in technical jargon, the term "projector" is more commonly used. Both terms refer to the same device: a device that projects images or videos from a source, such as a computer, games console or DVD player, onto a screen or wall.

The resolution of a projector is very important as it determines how sharp and detailed the image is. A higher resolution means more pixels, which results in a better picture quality. If you are using the projector for home cinema or gaming, choose at least Full HD (1920x1080) or even 4K (3840x2160) to get a clear and detailed picture. A lower resolution may also be sufficient for presentations in an office, while a higher resolution is recommended for films and games.

Yes, a 4K projector can also display content in Full HD (1920x1080). The projector adapts the Full HD content to its 4K resolution, which means that the image may even look slightly sharper and clearer as the projector uses the extra pixels to enhance the image. So you can enjoy lower resolution content with a 4K projector without any problems.

Yes, you can also use a projector during the day or in bright rooms, as long as the projector has a brightness of at least 3,000 lumens. This ensures that the image remains sharp and clearly visible even in ambient light. In darker rooms, a lower brightness is sufficient to produce a clear image.

The distance of the projector from the screen depends on several factors, in particular the size of the screen and the projector model. Every projector has a so-called "projection distance", which indicates how far away the projector must be from the screen in order to project a certain image size. As a rule of thumb, the larger the screen, the further away the projector should be. Many projectors also have a zoom function that allows you to adjust the image size without having to move the projector.

Connecting a projector is relatively simple. Most projectors have various connection options that allow you to connect different devices:

  • HDMI: This is the most common connection for modern devices such as Blu-ray players, games consoles, laptops and streaming sticks.
  • VGA: Often used for older computers to transfer the screen to the projector.
  • USB: Some projectors have USB ports that allow you to play images or videos directly from a USB stick.
  • Audio connections: This allows you to connect external speakers if the projector does not have built-in speakers or if they are not sufficient.

You must connect the appropriate cable to the output device (e.g. laptop or Blu-ray player) and to the projector. Then select the correct input source on the projector and the image will be projected.
